World Cup 2010 enjoys ticket frenzy

JOHANNESBURG, May 6 (Xinhua) -- The second phase of 2010 World Cup ticket sales reached 185,000 in eight hours as fans vied for seats in South Africa 2010, FIFA said on Tuesday.

Some 100,000 tickets are available for the phase which ends in November, excluding the two semi-finals and the final, and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

More than 1.6 million requests for tickets were recorded in the first ticket sales phase between February 20 and March 31.

FIFA said some 24,000 Confederations Cup tickets had sold in South Africa within the first 24 hours of direct sales for the tournament which begins next month.

With 340,000 tickets sold, some 300,000 remain available for the World Cup curtain raiser.
