The film "Looking For a Star" stands out in the new year movie season for its unique way of telling a modern day Cinderella story. What's so unique about it?
An oriental version of a modern day Cinderella, "Looking For a Star" follows the love story between a wealthy eligible bachelor and a working class casino dealer in Macao, played by Andy Lau and Shu Qi respectively.

This time around Andy Lau's character is not a successful career man involved in several relationships; nor is he a con artist who still has feelings for his ex-wife. In "Looking For a Star", Lau plays a millionaire who has gone through three unsuccessful marriages but is still waiting for his true love.

And Shu Qi's role is quite a departure from the stewardess she portrayed in "If You Are the One". In "Looking For a Star" Shu plays opposite Lau as an extroverted and independent casino dealer.
The two hour film is interwoven with three major storylines. But the happy ending of the three couples in the movie won't make every theater-goer happy. Some movie buffs say although the story is fine, it's too good to be true as the relationship rifts are so deep, reflecting their social statuses.
