British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has arrived in Pakistan. Earlier, he visited Afghanistan to tout a new security strategy for the region, as alarm spreads over Taliban advances.

Brown told Afghan President Hamid Karzai that the border areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan form the start of a "chain of terror," which Western powers must combat for their own safety.

Britain's new strategy will be published on Wednesday. It will echo a plan unveiled by the US administration in calling for a tight focus on fighting al Qaeda and Taliban militants.
