It took the Colombian hosts just fifteen minutes before they took the lead. A superb lofted pass allowed Diego Cabrera to get behind the Sao Paulo defense and cut an angled shot across Joao Bosco.

On the half hour mark, Independiente found themselves two up, luck playing a bigger part in the goal this time round. Juan Cuadrado crossed from the right wing, Cabrera layed the ball back first time and Rafael Castillo converted.

The visitors grabbed a goal back six minutes before the interval. Andre Lima played a one-two with Dagoberto before firing a shot into the corner. Despite the defeat, Sao Paulo remain top of the group while Independiente move to second place.
