China invests more in energy

China has allocated more money for energy development as part of its economic stimulus plan. This means that the nation's total investment for energy development comes to 580 billion yuan this year.

The global financial crisis has lessened China's need for energy. Officials from the National Energy Administration say now is a good time to reorganize its energy structure. The state will shut down most of the smaller thermal power generating units and small-sized coal and petroleum processing plants. At the same time, large-sized energy projects will be founded. New forms of energy like nuclear and wind power will develop as a result.
