The Frenchman finished the race on Sunday after 84 days, 3 hours, 9 minutes. This time beat Vincent Riou's 2004 record of 87 days, 10 hours, 47 minutes.
The gruelling race started from the French port on November 9 with 30 skippers. As Desjoyeaux finished, nine were climbing northwards in the Atlantic Ocean while some 7,700 miles behind. Eighteen skippers have been forced to abandon.
Desjoyeaux was greeted by a huge fleet of spectator boats before being warmly welcomed by large crowds gathered along the waterfront.
