The music starts, and a beautiful legend that dates back 1,800 years reappears in front of Beijing audiences. Young poet Cao Zhi meets a beautiful goddess by the Luo River. They fall in love. But Cao begins to worry about their future and doesn't believe their love will last forever.

At the Imperial Supreme Hall in the Forbidden City, one of the most romantic poems in classical Chinese literature was staged, in the traditional musical genre called Nanyin, or Nankuan. Originating in East China's Fujian Province, Nanyin, or Southern Tones, is considered "a living fossil of Chinese musical history".

To recreate the heavenly scenery depicted by the poet, designers created a watery stage using intricate light, sound and video effects.

The artistic director's biggest wish is to promote the ancient musical genre.
