After meeting with President El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, Wu Bangguo signed a pact on economic and technological cooperation. The pact aims to deepen bilateral cooperation on large-scale projects.
Wu Bangguo called Gabon a true friend of China. He said economic cooperation has been the foundation for Sino-Gabonese ties.
Bongo said relations with China have always been high on his country's foreign relations agenda, and more efforts should be made to initiate large-scale collaborative projects.
Later, Wu Bangguo also met with the President of the Gabonese National Assembly, Guy Nzouba Ndama. Wu said China's National People's Congress is ready to step up cooperation with the Gabonese parliament, so as to inject new vigor into bilateral relations. He added that China is satisfied with the growth of Sino-Gabonese ties, and the two sides have enjoyed healthy and stable development of friendship since they established diplomatic ties 34 year ago.
Ndama echoed Wu's views on bilateral ties and inter-parliamentary cooperation. He said frequent mutual visits between the two countries' leaders have taken bilateral ties to a new level, which has already brought substantial benefits to the Gabonese people.
The China's top legislator also met with the speaker of the Gabonese Senate, Rene Radembino Coniquet. The two voiced mutual commitment to enhance their cooperation.
Wu Bangguo arrived in Gabon on Thursday for a two-day official visit. He will fly to Ethiopia on Saturday. Also on the itinerary of his five-African-nation tour are Algeria, Madagascar, and the Seychelles.
