Representatives of governments, international organizations and non-governmental organizations from nearly 100 countries are taking part in the conference, which focuses on technology development and transfer.
Premier Wen Jiabao urged developed nations to help developing countries to cope with global climate change.
He said the Chinese government has always taken a responsible attitude towards climate change and China has confidence it can fulfill its goal.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said, "After rapidly developing their economies, it took developed countries several decades to solve the problems of saving energy and cutting emissions. China has to solve the same problems in a much shorter period. So the difficulty is unprecedented. The Chinese government will unswervingly carry out production, living and consumption patterns which save energy and resources as well as preserving the environment."
The conference scheduled to run through Saturday is jointly organized by the Chinese government and the United Nations. It aims to facilitate international cooperation on technology development and transfer, as well as the international negotiation process on climate change.
