Xu Wei, rebirth with new album

Xu Wei is one of the best known rock musicians in China. In recent years his style has been more influenced by pop. For over ten years, he has received accolades for his unique style, especially among music lovers born in 1960s and 70s. After a long hiatus, Xu Wei is coming back with his fifth album "Love Like a Teen", which was released on October 15. Besides the touching melodies on the album, he did something he has never done before. He recorded songs with various top musicians in China he had never worked with.

After leaving the spotlight for four years, Xu Wei finally released new work for his fans. He says he spent three years composing and one year producing the album. 12 songs were carefully selected from 44 possibilities and put onto the album. He feels diligence is necessary to compile albums.



Xu said, "Producing an album reminds me of school. No matter how it goes, I don't want to be a person stressed by work, or daily life. I would like to keep my happiness and innocence. Making an album is like doing homework to me. I concentrate on the job and have fun afterwards."

The first hit of the album, "Story" has caused controversy. Some say it is typical Xu Wei, and some say he fails to breakthrough. To Xu, making music of his own is satisfying and fulfilling at the age of 40.



Xu said, "I've been in this circle for so many years and now I've realized that I won't do abstract music. I will write the songs that are close to life that everyone can feel it. Every album is a blessing to life and to all the people."
