17 Brazilian cities are bidding to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup games.
FIFA says they will announce a final dozen on March 20th.
Brazil was the only country to enter a bid for the 2014 World cup, which will be the 20th World championship. This will be the second time Brazil has hosted the competition after the 1950 World Cup. According to current FIFA practices, the number of host cities is limited to ten, but the Brazilian Confederation requested permission to assign 12 cities to host the finals, which FIFA agreed to on Wednesday. A FIFA party has begun a week-long tour of all the 17 cities. Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Brasilia hope to host the opening game, while Rio de Janeiro was the main candidate for the final.
