Former Sanlu Group chairwoman, Tian Wenhua, has lodged an appeal to overturn a life sentence for her role in the melamine-tainted milk scandal.

Tian says the first trial did not clearly distinguish the facts and lacked evidence. Her life sentence was imposed on January 22nd for manufacturing and selling fake or substandard products.
Three other former Sanlu executives have also appealed their jail terms of 5 to 15 years. Sanlu was the biggest company involved in the melamine scandal which killed 6 babies and sickened 290,000 infants nationwide.
