World Cancer Day in China

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and is set to become the number one killer by 2010. February the fourth has been designated World Cancer Day to alert people to the importance of cancer prevention.

The outpatient department of the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Science is crowded right after the Spring Festival.



More than 30,000 patients are hospitalized for treatment here every year.



Cancer is the number one killer in both rural and urban China. Almost a quarter of urban residents die of the disease.



Prof. Chen Guoji of Cancer Hospital, CAMS said, "Breast cancer patients are mostly in the cities. Women now have more pressure from work, and they have to postpone having children."
