China has urged the United States to remove obstacles to improving military ties. Relations suffered a serious setback last year after a US arms sale to Taiwan.

Qian Lihua, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Defense Ministry, was speaking before talks with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense David Sedney.
The two-day Defense Policy Coordination Talks, began on Friday morning in Beijing. This is the fifth round of talks since they began in 2005.
Defense officials from the two countries were due to meet in November as part of annual talks. But the meeting was postponed after the Pentagon announced a 6.5-billion-dollar arms deal with Taiwan in October.
