Search for swimming talent on in Zimbabwe

Following the success story of Kirsty Coventry at the last two Olympic Games in Greece and China, a major talent identification program aimed at unearthing future swimming stars is underway in Zimbabwe, The Herald reported on Saturday.

Zimbabwe Olympic Committee board member Kathy Lobb is heading the program with the assistance of the Zimbabwe Aquatic Union who have identified a number of provincial coaches for this scheme.

This program on Friday got a major boost when Lobb handed over a swimming kit that she sourced during last April's world short-course championships in Manchester, England.

The kit was presented to the provincial coaches who are currently attending the national swimming championships at Harare's Les Brown Pool.

According to Glenda Heard, the project's manager, a number of coaches were selected in October last year and have been given the task to identify talented Zimbabwean swimmers. The swimmers will then be nurtured by ZOC on this talent identification program to take them to the highest possible level internationally.
