Crazy Ning Hao

"Silver Medalist" Director Ning Hao's latest effort has won big at the box office. The film has generated a wave of movie ticket buying sweeping director Ning Hao back into the public spotlight. But what's behind his latest success?

In 2006. Ning Hao's work -- "Crazy Stone" -- gained a robust box office return about ten times its three million yuan budget. And three years later. Ning is back with "Silver Medalist" which has generated an astonishing box office return of over one hundred millions yuan. On Tuesday, cast members held a party in Beijing celebrating its blockbuster success. Movie investor Han Sanping and actor Zhang Guoli together presented a check of 500-thousand yuan to the 32-year old director.

Actor Huang Bo, who has collaborated with Ning many times, says he's delighted for Ning.

Actor Huang Bo said, "From the very beginning, we thought we could gain 80-million yuan at the box office. Of course we had bigger ambitions, but at that time no one was sure whether we could earn over a 100-million or not. I'm so happy we did. Simply speaking, this is a victory for domestic movies, because there's no such case in the past like this one, winning big with just an average budget. You know, movies with an average budget, say ten to twenty million yuan, have become something that no one has dared to dabble with for years. I'm happy we did it. And I'm happy for domestic movies. I'm happy for Ning Hao and I'm happy for myself."
