Sloan to coach Jazz for 22nd season

WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan will remain in his post for the 22nd season, the NBA franchise said on Sunday.

Sloan, 66, has been coaching the team since 1988 and become the longest-tenured active coach with one team in major professional sports.

Jerry is the standard for hard work and consistency, Greg Miller, chief executive officer of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies that owns the Jazz, said in a statement posted on the NBA website (www.nba.com).

Sloan has agreed to return for a 22nd season, the team announced on Sunday.

Sloan's 1,113-734 record makes him the first NBA coach to win 1,000 games with one team.

He led Jazz to two conference championships, seven division titles, 16 consecutive winning seasons, 12 seasons with 50-plus wins and 18 playoff appearances.
