China tourism heating up during Spring Festival holidays

Chinese tourism authorities say the first three days of the Spring Festival witnessed a surge in visitors to the country's top sites.

Beijing has provided 50,000 free tickets for visitors to the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Great Wall and the National Stadium.



Meanwhile, Shanghai has launched inexpensive one-day tours of the city. And visitors flying to major scenic sites in the northeastern provinces of Heilongjiang and Jilin have surged by 4,000 per day since Monday, with hotel occupancy rates in Heilongjiang surpassing 90 percent.
