Canadas NDP, Bloc Quebecois say not to support budget

OTTAWA, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Two of Canada's opposition parties -- the New Democratic Party (NDP) and the Bloc Quebecois -- said Tuesday they will not support the Conservative government's budget.

The two parties had already indicated they would vote against the budget even before the budget announcement, saying they had lost faith and trust in the government.

Immediately after the budget was released, NDP leader Jack Layton said in a statement the budget will not adequately save and create jobs.

This budget fails to restore confidence in Mr. Harper's ability to protect the vulnerable in Canada ... it does not give us confidence in the direction the Harper government is going, said Layton.

Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe criticized the budget for not including enough for pay equity, the environment, seniors, social housing or lower income families.

Obviously, we will not support that budget, Duceppe told reporters.

I think the best solution by far is a coalition which agreed on a bailout plan that would have been much better to get us out of this crisis now, Duceppe said.

The budget is subject to a series of confidence votes in the Parliament later this week and it now rests totally on the Liberals to decide the fate of the Conservative government.

Earlier Tuesday, Liberal leader Ignatieff said he and his advisers will spend the evening studying the budget document and will announce his decision Wednesday.
