AZ Alkmaar continued its remarkable start to the season with a 1-nil victory over NEC Nijmegen. The win consolidated Alkmaar's position on top of the standings.
As expected, Alkmaar dominated the first half. Striker Stijn Schaars produced numerous threats to the NEC goal, but could not convert any of them.
Graziano Pelle stood out for AZ Alkmaar in the second half. He made no mistake on this shot, slotting it home from close range to put Alkmaar ahead with 15 minutes to go. And that was how the game ended, as AZ Alkmaar collected three points.
