Trials continue for Sanlu suspects

Another four people accused of involvement in China's tainted dairy scandal went on trial today (Monday) in Shijiazhuang, capital of northern China's Hebei province.

The Shijiazhuang Intermediate People's Court began the hearing for Gao Junjie, Xue Jianzhong and two others charged with endangering public safety.



The court was told the suspects began producing protein powder containing melamine starting November 2007. From then until August this year,they produced more than 200 tons of the protein powder. The accused sold over 110 tons to the Sanlu Group with the sales volume exceeding 1.2 million yuan. On Friday,six other people involved in the scandal stood trial in four courts in Hebei on charges of producing, selling or adding protein powder that contained melamine.The courts have not announced the verdicts. A bankruptcy petition for Sanlu was filed as the company faced debts of 1.1 billion yuan.
