Cuban press questions FILA decision on best Greco-Roman wrestler of 2008

HAVANA, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The official Cuban daily Granma on Tuesday questioned the decision of the International Federation of Amateur Wrestling (FILA) on choosing Rovshan Bayramov instead of Cuban Mijain Lopez as the best Greco-Roman wrestler in 2008, .

Nobody, nor from the free not from the Greco, had even comparable results to those of him (Lopez), which made him the best in the period 2004-2008, Granma said.

The FILA chose Bayramov, of 55kg, silver medal of the 28th Olympic Games of Bejing, together with Ukrainian Vasyl Fedorishin (60) and Bulgarian Stanka Zlateva (72), in the same style.

The analysis included the results in many competitions, among them the Super Final of the grand Prix, where Lopez did not compete.

Granma said that Lopez, chosen the best Cuba sportsman of 2008,won a gold medal in the Olympic Games of Beijing and two in three of the world Cups of the period, as well as a silver in the other one.

A case like the one of Lopez invites FILA to change the selection methods of the best wrestler, Granma said.
