Live poultry has reappeared in Hong Kong markets after the lifting of a 3-week ban, triggered by a wave of bird flu earlier this month. It's good news for a region where chicken is a popular choice for the dinner table.

Almost 30,000 live chickens were brought into markets on the first day after the lifting of the ban, and prices remain no different from before.

Restaurants featuring chicken on the menu reserved many of the live poultry, which taste better than frozen ones. Most of the chicken are raised locally, with some also imported from the mainland.

Local authorities have drawn lessons from the bird flu outbreak, planning to prevent the disease in the future by avoiding large-scale storage of live chickens.
