Preview of new year film season

Year-end brings fierce competition at cinema box offices. The prime beneficiaries are the people who buy the tickets - the film goers. Producers bring out their top productions at year's end. This year audiences look forward to films like, "Desires of the Heart" - a comedy. The gangster thriller "Beast Stalker" has just been released. These are the first New Year releases to enter the fray. Let's take a look at the full New Year line up at the cinema this year.

Already "Beast Stalker" is battling for box office returns with "Desires of the Heart." Both opened on the same day, November 20th, getting the New Year film season under way. "Beast Stalker" boasts star power. There's Hong Kong heart throb Nicholas Tse, and gangster movie stalwart Nick Cheung. "Desires of the Heart" stars comedian Ge You and a string of young female stars.

"Beast Stalker" is winning big in south China but is not doing so well in the north. "Desires of the Heart", which is an urban love tale is a box office hit in Beijing. But in southern Guangzhou it lags behind "Beast Stalker" in ticket sales.

"FitLover"

"FitLover"

Hot on the heels of the two opening films are the comedies "Fit Lover" and "The Underdog Knight." Both were released at the end of November. "Fit Lover" is the sequel of last year's box office success "Call for Love". The sequel relates the hilarious story of a lady perplexed by the true quality of "Mr Right," as she dates a dozen eligible gentlemen. The film has strong appeal for women. "The Underdog Knight" aims at a male audience. Starring Liu Ye, Anthony Wong and You Yong, the film is about a man skilled in Kungfu, but unsophisticated in mind. His unflinching efforts, earn him the favour of the God of Fate.
