Background Report:
Intro:
Before Chinese President Hu Jintao visits Latin America, the government released a policy paper on Latin America and the Caribbean.
This is the first paper on this region following China’s EU policy paper and a similar one on Africa. Despite the sea silk road of the 17th century, China and Latin America as well as the Caribbean’s cultural and economic exchange cannot match with the political ties and the continental importance.
The financial crisis has brought the two sides closer in the hope of finding a solution to the common challenges.
