In today's "30 in 30" series, we take a look at the beginning of the national highway construction. It starts in the eastern province of Zhejiang, where the entrepreneurial spirit was going strong in 1989.
Private business is thriving in Zhejiang in the 1980s. The area is eager for better transport to connect its scattered economic hotspots.
In December 1989, the State Council approves the construction of a highway between the provincial capital Hangzhou, and the major port city Ningbo.
