Kuomintang Chairman Wu Poh-Hsiung said, "The importance of the forum lies in the fact that both the CPC and KMT are ruling parties. This makes it possible to convert the proposals put forth at the forum into policies. The ties between the CPC and KMT played a buffering role during past years amid tensions in cross-strait relations. After the KMT came into power on the island this year, the ties have become the catalyst to push forward the development of peaceful cross-strait ties. Our policies on cross-strait ties have won the support of the majority of the public. They say the policies are in the interests of Taiwan."
